NOTE 1:   Lunch will not be provided.   Please bring your own brown bag lunch, snacks, and drink.    The meeting will be in the covered Pavillon, with the beach / ocean in the background.    Social distancing will be observed  and parking in the Mission lot is available.
NOTE 2:  As COVID restrictions are easing, visiting Rotarians are WELCOME.    Please join our meeting at the Jodo Mission Lahaina.

 and donations in fromt of Long's in Lahaina's Cannery Mall.

I.   Thursday 30 June 2022 was the last meeting under the leadership of President Joe Park (1 July 2020 - 30 June 2022).  Tomorrow Rachel Miyoshi takes over as President for the coming Rotary year (1 July 2022 - 30 June 2023)
J.   Tuesday, 28 June 2022, President Joe Park, PP Rick Nava, and members Rhonda Park, Elle Cochran, and Dr. Jasmine Esguerra attrnded the Shelter Box presentation at the Royal Lahaina Resort along with members from the Lahaina Sunrise and Lahaina Sunset Clubs.
K.   Rotary Club of Lahaina inducted a new member.   Elle Cochean, Co-owner Maui Surfboards, and former Maui County Council Member for west Maui.   Our Speaker was Angus McKelvey, Hawaii State Representative from District 10.
L.  Saturaday, 18 June 2022, PP Joe Pluta, President Joe Park, Rhonda Park, and Elle Cochran served as Parade Marshals for the Kamehameha Parade in Lahaina.   It was the first parade held in Lahaina for two years, with food and music under the Banyan Tree after the event.  
M.   Thursday, 16 June 2022,   Rotary Club of Lahaina inducted a new member, Dr, Jasmine Esguerra.  Dr. Esguerra is local Chiropractor, with patients from all over Maui.  Welcome Dr. Jasmine.
N.  Thursday, 9 June 2022, our Guest Speaker was Elle Cochran, former Maui County Councilwoman, and candidate for the Hawaii State House of Representatives. District 14 seat.    She discussed her recent trip to Europe as part of the Hawaiian delegation to visit the royal courts of Europe.   Heading the delegation was HRH Princess Awana Ka'ohelelani (see crownofhawaii.com).
O.  Saturday, 4 June 2022, we did our 2nd Beach Clean-up of Baby Beach, in partnership with Jodo Mission Lahaina.  We had 18  adults and 2 students, who spent 2 hours removing trash from the beach and parking areas.  We filled the back of a pick-up truck, which then took the collected trash to the refuse transfer station.  
P.  Friday, 20 May 2022, at 9 am was the Awards Ceremony at Maui Prep in Nepali.   PE Rachel & PP Joe Pluta attended to represent RC of Lahaina.
Q. Thursday, 12, 19, 26 May, and 2 June 2922,  we had Club Assemblies to update the membership on the status of last month's fundraiser and continue working on the budget for next Rotary Year (1 July 2022 -30 June 2023).  At our 2 June meeting we elected our officers for next rotary year and approc\ved our budget for said year.
R.  Saturday, 7 May 2022 Rotary Club of Lahaina partnered with the Whaler Resort to do a BEACH CLEAN-UP of Kaanapali Beach.    The 15 participants had a good time and removed a lot of trash from the beach. 
S.  Thursday, 5 May 2022 our speaker was Meagan DeGaia, Destination Manager,  Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau.  Meagan joined the Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau (MVCB) last August and has been responsible for supervising, managing, implementing and reporting on the Maui Nui Destination Management Action Plan (DMAP), its Community Enrichment Program (CEP), as well as signature events within Maui County. Among her tasks, DeGaia has been engaging members of the local communities and their residents to participate in amplifying regenerative tourism activities as well as managing “hot spots” (highly visited tourist locations) on their respective islands at monthly community meetings on Maui, Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i.   We were also joined last Thursday (5 May) by some of our 2022 - 2023 Rotary Club of Lahaina Scholarship winners, who were recently selected

U.  Friday, 22 April  2022 :   Club Social  was held from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at Tommy Bahama's on Front Street  in the Lahaina Outlet Mall!   In attendance were President Joe & Rhonda Park,  PP Joe Pluta, Jane Bush,   Fereshteh Nikbakhsh-Tali & Don Russell.  Happy Birthday PP Joe.
V. Thursday 14 April 2022:  Club Assembly.      Discussed last Saturday's fundraiser as to what went well and what we need to improve upon next year.   Special thanks to Lahaina Jodo Mission for hosting our fundraiser and to the Rotary District 5000 Foundation for joining our team this year.   
W.  Thursday (10, 17, 24, & 31  March and 7, 14, & 21 April 2022):  Club Assembly.  We worked on first finalizing plans for and then reporting out on our 9 April fundraiser.

Retired Hawaii Circuit Court Judge Richard T. Bissen, Jr.

Richard T. Bissen, Jr. was sworn in as a Circuit Court judge for the Second Circuit in April 2005 and served until his retirement  in December 2022.    Prior to his appointment, he served as the Interim Director for the State of Hawai`i Department of Public Safety and as the First Deputy Attorney General for the State.

Judge Bissen served as the Prosecuting Attorney for the County of Maui from August 1995 to January 2003. He was a Deputy Prosecutor from 1987 to 1991 and from 1992 to 1995. He was also a partner in the law firm of Cardoza, Fukuoka & Bissen (1991 to 1992) and served as a law clerk for retired Second Circuit Court Judge Richard R. Komo (1986 to 1987).

Judge Bissen received his law degree from the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law.

He recently announced his candidacy for Mayor of Maui County in this fall's election.

Six RC of Lahaina members met with 2 visiting Rotarians and eleven students and their sponsors from Sacred Hearts  and Lahaina Intermediate Schools to perform  a Beach Clean-up at Baby Beach.
