Rotary Club of Lahaina Donates 4400# of Food

The Rotary Club of Lahaina, partnering with Sysco Hawaii donated $4,000 in wholesale fresh produce (4,400 pounds), as well as refrigerated and frozen items for needy families through the Maui Food Bank. Because the Food Bank does not have storage for perishable items, Sysco is working with the club to keep items in storage in their facilities until time of distribution.

We'd like to give a shout out to Maui Food Bank and Sysco for helping to put this deal together.  The following week, half a dozen other clubs on Maui took advantage of this offer and purchsaed over 20,000# is food for local families!

Rotary Club of Lahaina President Darryl Ng, PP Rick Nava and wife Rina Nava, and PP Mila Salvador made the club's twice yearly trip to the Philippines to see the work done since our last visit and to setup some new and exciting programs for communities in the PI.  Our first stop was to Ilo Ilo where we were invited to the annual Dinagyang Festival that celebrates the indigenous peoples of the Philippines. This was especially fitting as we are working on or have recently completed projects for Bajao and Atti tribes of indigenous peoples.

TV Install Project at Lahaina Intermediate

Posted on Oct 19, 2018
The Rotary Club of Lahaina along with the awesome staff at the Whaler, a luxury condiminum on Kaanapali beach, installed televisions in 15 classrooms at Lahaina Intermediate School.  Our Rotary club heard about the need for the installations when we were told that although TVs were delivered over a year ago, they were being strapped to carts because of the high cost to install (The DOE had received bids for upwards of $1000 per room!).  Rotary Club of Lahaina members including President Darryl Ng, President Elect Kalei Jaramillo, and Service Chair and PP Mila Salvador (Who is General Manager at the Whaler), along with whaler team members were able to install all TVs in 5 hours.  We are very grateful to the Whaler for helping us with the needs of our local Intermediate school.  The school will no longer have to worry about broken TV's on their carts!

Lahaina Rotary Club Makes A Difference In Philippines

The Rotary Club of Lahaina prides itself on the partnerships we have made with clubs in the Philippines to bring school supplies to needy children, and to provide clean drinking water and sanitation to areas that have none.  Believe it or not, many schools in the Philippines, even in the most developed of areas, lack access to clean water and sanitation for those that cannot afford it.

Mahalo, Maui!!! Instant Wine Cellar Social a great success

We've always known Maui is filled to the brim with wonderful friends and neighbors, and your generosity and spirit of good fun has proved it true, once again.  The Rotary Club of Lahaina held a special event at the Lahaina Yacht Club on Saturday, April 1, 2017 and the support was beyond measure.  Through attendance, participation in a silent auction and a "suggested donation"drawing, you helped us raise over $3000 for our scholarship fund!

On Saturday, April 15, the scholarship committee interviewed 14 high school seniors - from West Maui and the island of Molokai - and thanks to you - we were able to award ... wait.  You have to wait until after the three schools hold their award ceremonies!  We'll let you know which students were awarded.  But in the meantime, please enjoy some photos of the event...

School Supply Drive 2016

Stocking up on school supplies can be a daunting task, particularly for families who have several keiki in school at the same time.  To help alleviate the financial impact, our Maui Rotary Clubs sponsor a School Supply Drive each year.  Generally held the last weekend in July at various locations island-wide, the supplies and monetary donations are collected and distributed our schools within our respective areas.

The three Lahaina Clubs each hold their own drive, but then pool their resources and distribute equally among the West Maui elementary schools.

Here are some photos from start to finish:  Our Rotary Club of Lahaina volunteers who collected the items, the volunteers from all three Lahaina Rotary Clubs who organized and distributed the collections, and finally ... RCL volunteers delivering the goods to Princess Nahienaena Elementary School.  In addition to these supplies, we collected $300 for their use, as needed.

Just another modest example of Rotary Serving Humanity.  Mahalo to all ...
